Hello all, and welcome to the new LeMet Forums!

I will be integrating the Forums Log-In process with your LeMetropole login as soon as I can get to it. In the meantime please manually log in with your LeMetropole User ID and password.

As always, only Full members may post to the Forums. Trial members are always welcome to browse the postings and we look forward to your future input!

I will also append the previous postings from the old board as soon as I can get to it.

We are now running on the new server. Thanks so much for everyone's patience while we got this thing built! I still have a few things to iron out but I am sure everything will run much more smoothly from now on.

Please post any comments or suggestions here in the webmaster forum.

Best to all,

Mike C.

Mike,

What happened to 'live chat' function?

I can't see to find the instant messaging board.

Keep up the good work Mike.  No sleep till completion then take a day off and enjoy!

Mike I know this is stressful to pull all of this together and honestly I'm glad it's you and not me BUT the "LIVE CHAT CLIENT" IMO is imperative to the Cafe'.

The static forum is very nice but live interaction during the trading day does a whole lot more to stimulate thinking as well as the flow of "real-time" information.

IT'S A KEEPER MIKE!!! A KEEPER I TELL YA!!

In my opinion, the prior format was superior because for some reason it usually led to posts of a paragraph or two, rather than a single sentence or two.

That generally meant each post and reply contained a completely thought-out contribution.

So far, it is necessary to back-track to prior posts in a thread to understand what most people are talking about.  Thinking is fragmented.

I do not consider this an advance.

I also do not understand what has caused this change in mentality.

Tommy,

I second that -- this new forum software's thought fragmentation is like replacing the History Channel with MTV. I like how the old forum also allowed me to click on a "New Posts" link and see new posts across all conversations at a single glance, even to very old discussions.

New hardware is great, but the old forum software was superior, even if it was off-line many hours a week due to that "Cold Fusion template file is locked" error.

C'mon guys, what the heck are you talking about???

"In my opinion, the prior format was superior because for some reason it usually led to posts of a paragraph or two, rather than a single sentence or two. "

In the words of the Geico Cave Man - "Ah -- What??"   You can use as many paragraphs as you want, this post for example.

"So far, it is necessary to back-track to prior posts in a thread to understand what most people are talking about.  Thinking is fragmented."

Every post in a thread is right there in front of you, top to bottom, in chronological order. You can also review them while composing a reply (in the window I am writing in now) in a provided below the text entry window.

"That generally meant each post and reply contained a completely thought-out contribution."

Not much I can do about the amount of thought put into the postings.

"..this new forum software's thought fragmentation is like replacing the History Channel with MTV."  -- As above, the Cave Man said it best.

I like how the old forum also allowed me to click on a "New Posts" link and see new posts across all conversations at a single glance

How about the "Today's active topics" button at the top left of the front page? Close to the old functionality, and I can probably improve it. Try subscribing to interesting topics too. Then you can use the button right below, "View your subscribed topics".

Guys I hope you take this post as intended, a little good natured ribbing!

I have received a lot of favorable feedback on the operation of this board and I think the the negative comments have all been very vague. Whenever I have asked those with negative comments to elaborate, be specific, I have gotten nothing. Starting to think that some of you guys are just like me - "I don't mind progress I just hate change!"

As I have posted in some other threads, keeping the old board was technically not possible. Aside from the fact that it was an antique, created somewhere between the 8088 and the 386-12, for which the original software is non-existant, it was an unstable, un-maintainable, un- administerable behemoth of a server resource chewing monster. A chat board that used it's own proprietary server for Pete's sake! Something from the dark ages that required special leaches and incantations to keep running!

Please give this board a chance. Look it over, get used to it. It works just like most other boards on the web.

I told Brian in another thread that I will look into setting up a blog style message board as well. Now that's "Thought Fragmentation" if you ask me! Random posts on any subject, un-categorized, but in chronological order at least (yippeee!!). Some like it though.

Gents I really do want to make this a great board! The old board was so frustrating to work with from my side that I really could not do anything much with it. This one is so much better. I hope you will give it a chance, and please know that all your postings are appreciated. We need your to help make this an active forum.

Best,

Mike C.

Hey, I'm an IT kinda gal and I understand the need to update...but maybe we could get a little user's guide or something published to help us out?

I think the functionality is plus a little, minus a little, but most of us don't have the time or inclination to go debugging all of the feature sets.  A lot of what we know and love might very well be there, it's just via a few different keystrokes, and we just don't know how to get from A to B.

So...a little help please?  That said, thank you so much for all of your effort, I know this forum has saved my sanity many times over and I will do what I can to continue supporting it.

~Kit

Hi Kit, thanks for checking in! I'll see if there might be a tutorial or similar. Sort of doubt it but I will  look!

Mike
