For some time now I've been using EFF's (the Electronic Frontier Foundation's) "HTTPS Everywhere" browser extension (for Firefox and Chrome), which secures one's browsing with SSL/TLS encryption by making sure that, where a site offers a secure version of itself, your browser connects only with that secure version. But the program can do nothing with sites that have no support for HTTPS security - sites like LeMetropolecafe.com. The article below "is designed to help web operators get a conceptual handle on how to protect their users with HTTPS. Taking a little bit of care to protect your users is a reasonable thing for web application providers to do, and a good thing for users to demand." It also shows how adding HTTPS security doesn't have to be all that difficult or time-consuming. I include it here because I think it might well be worth the webmaster's consideration as good practice and in the interest of security in general, but also particularly given that this is a by-subscription-only site. My feeling is that we've reached an era where all web communications should be secure from tampering or eavesdropping of any kind. https://www.eff.org/https-everywhere/deploying-https

While we're at it with adding HTTPS to the site, I've thought for a long time that someone needs to come up with a good favicon for LeMetropolecafe.com as well, since it has never had one, and since having no favicon or "icon branding" is an increasing rare thing in today's web.

I am hoping for some comment here from the webmaster or from anyone else, for that matter. How do folks here feel about better security for the site and for your browsing on it? I'm guessing that most probably haven't given it much thought up to now, but it's an increasingly important issue in today's web.
